Last month, I was invited to lead a new creative direction for Spiber who are pioneering biomaterials and reimagining how we design, wear and think about clothing.
The brand is developing revolutionary materials grown from nature, not fossil fuels. Think: sustainable fibres that don’t compromise on performance or beauty. As a creative, it’s a dream brief, perfectly blending science, fashion and a vision for the future.
So where do I come in? I proposed a glossy, futuristic aesthetic and TOV that feels clean, refined and quietly confident. A fresh face for a new generation of materials. This is creative elevation at its finest. This isn’t about cold tech or distant innovation. It’s about connection, intention, and storytelling through design.
Spiber in the Wild: From Streetwear to Haute Couture
What excites me about Spiber is the diversity of their partnerships. These aren’t theoretical materials, they’re already being worn, tested, loved. From high-performance outerwear to the couture runways of Paris, Spiber’s reach is as broad as it is meaningful.
The North Face Collaboration: The MOON PARKA
One of Spiber’s most iconic projects is with The North Face Japan, through their partnership with GOLDWIN. Together, they developed the MOON PARKA, the first outerwear jacket made with Spiber’s Brewed Protein™ fibres.
It’s not just high-tech outerwear; it’s a symbol of how brands can lead with sustainability. The design blends performance and responsibility, showing what’s possible when fashion and science collaborate. It’s clothing for the climate-conscious, the curious, and the courageous.
Utakata at Paris Couture Week
On the other end of the spectrum is Utakata, a stunning collaboration between designer Yuima Nakazato and Spiber, shown at Paris Haute Couture Week.
I saw it as an exploration of impermanence, transformation, and our relationship with the planet. The garments shimmered and shifted, made from biomaterials that respond to the body and the environment. Soft, sculptural, and emotive. A glimpse of what couture could become.
It’s a reminder that sustainability doesn’t mean compromise. It can be luxurious. It can be elegant. It can be deeply moving.
What’s Next?
There’s so much more to come. Spiber is still evolving, and I’m incredibly proud to help shape how that evolution looks and feels.
Whether you’re into streetwear, couture, or curious where materials are headed, this journey includes you.
Stay tuned for more stories, more visuals, and a future that’s growing, quite literally, from the ground up.
